“If you don’t look facts in the face, they have a way of stabbing you in the back.”
Winston Churchill
In a survey completed in 2016 by the Sleeter Group, 76% of people said they want their CPA to offer more proactive planning services. As the AICPA put it, CPAs are now expected to be their clients “most trusted business advisors (Lindsey Ferguson “Gaining From Your Client’s Trust”), and as CPA Horizons 2025 pointed out, a CPA is no longer defined by “traditional services such as tax preparation, audits, and financial statements.”
The Team Based Model (TBM) allows the CPA to provide services that their clients need but might not be receiving. The economic conditions over the last 5-10 years have created a serious demand for CPAs to become much more proactive and act as the ‘trusted business advisor’ for their clients. The majority of CPAs aren’t able to keep up with these shifting demands in addition to all of the tax law changes.
As a CPA Team Based Model Consultant, my team and I can help with this new reality.
For the CPA
The CPA Team Based Model helps the CPA deliver more proactive holistic value as a “one stop shop” to clients by:
Increased organic growth by giving their clients a unique story to tell. Instead of the client telling their friends about somebody their CPA referred them to and the good work they did, they’re talking about the CPA and the exceptional work their CPA did – this elevates the CPA in the eyes of
the client
For the Client
The CPA TBM provides a better “client experience” and virtually no downside for the client and numerous upsides, including:
Having one point of contact for all financial needs
CPA remains the “quarterback” overseeing the planning process
CPA approves the solutions
Truly holistic and comprehensive solutions
World-class results coming from some of the best specialists in the country
Here’s how the Team Based Model has helped CPAs add more value to their clients
